Root Canal Treatment in Freising
Saving Teeth Instead of ExtractionAt our experienced endodontic practice, we focus on preserving infected teeth through root canal therapy. When harmful bacteria penetrate the inner parts of a tooth, root canal treatment is often the only option to save the tooth. Otherwise, the only alternative is to extract the entire tooth along with its roots.
There are various reasons why root canals become diseased. Common causes include deep or unnoticed cavities, repeated procedures on the same tooth, cracks in the tooth or roots, and trauma to the dental tissue. Inflammation of the dental nerve (pulpitis) typically presents as severe sensitivity in the affected tooth, discoloration of the crown, or swelling of the surrounding gums.
Tooth Preservation Despite Infection
Our endodontic treatments begin with efforts to preserve the soft tissue inside the tooth protected by the gums. If this is no longer possible, we restore healthy conditions within the root canals and surrounding tissue near the root tip. During a root canal treatment, all remaining soft tissue is carefully removed from the canals, which are then thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
Afterwards, a special root filling is placed to resist bacterial contamination. The treated tooth is then sealed tightly to prevent any future bacterial invasion.
The primary goal of root canal therapy is to save the tooth. Additionally, the procedure protects your overall health by preventing the spread of infection through the bloodstream, which could cause various complications. Visually, the treated tooth is almost indistinguishable from neighboring healthy teeth and can remain functional in the mouth for many years, even decades. Another benefit is that ongoing chewing pressure helps prevent bone loss in the jaw.
